Sri Lanka: 128 for 6 (20 overs)
(Mathews 58 off 45 balls, Broad 2 for 21)
England: 132 for 3 (16 overs)
(Pietersen 45 off 26 balls, Kieswettter 39 off 29 balls, Lumb 33 off 26 balls, Perera 2 for 19)
Sri Lanka finally collapsed after fighting their way into the semi finals. Their batting did not take off and they just sunk to 4 for 47 off 9 overs. Even with a tiny rescue act by Kapugedera and Mathews they got to 93 for 5 in 16.3 overs. Can Mathews do it second time in running? Well in T20 you can begin where you left off in the previous match – going by the repeat performances by many batsmen. Mathews did do his bit to get Sri Lanka to 128. But surely, they were going to be out of this world cup, or would they?
England left nothing to chance and raced their way to victory with back to back partnerships. Their top order has been cracking in the last few matches, and with earlier exposure to their lower order, they would surely have no worries in the finals. This is going to be a new England the Australians would face! But could England win their first ever World Cup final?
