India: 186 for 5 (20 overs)
(Suresh Raina 101 off 60 balls, Yuvraj 37 off 30 balls, Kleinveldt 2 for 48)
South Africa: 172 for 5 (20 overs)
(Kallis 73 off 54 balls, Smith 36 off 28 balls, DeVillier 31 off 15 balls, Yusuf Pathan 2 for 42)
India carried their form of IPL into the World Cup. The always in form Suresh Raina scored the first century of this edition. Yuvraj again contributed with a useful 37. But the key to a large score was the finish by Yusuf Pathan and Dhoni – reminds one of the great Lance Kluesner finishes that gave South Africa the edge in 1999-2000. The tables have now turned and a lot of Zulus bat for India.
Kallis also carried his IPL form into this tournament making one wish that Sachin too was here. Kallis initially was quite tentative when Bosman was around and still cautious when he put together a partnership with Smith. By now the rate started looking unfathomable. A late charge brought them quite close, however, Indian bowlers did not let them run away with their ambitions and got out Morkel and DeVilliers. Nobody below them has the wherewithall to score at a strike rate of 200+. So the end was inevitable.
