Scorecard:

South Africa: 130 for 5 (20 overs)

(DeVillier 63 off 51 balls, Smith 26 off 26 balls, Sangkarra 35 off 35 balls, Jadeja 1 for 9, Harbhajan 1 for 20, Raina 1 for 6)

India: 118 for 8 (20 overs)

(Gambhir 21 off 19 balls, Rohit Sharma 29 off 28 balls, Botha 2 for 10, Udana 2 for 17)

South Africa took it a little easy after resting Kallis. They were soon sitting pretty at 59 for 1 in just above 8 overs. However, India got back through Harbhajan and Raina. DeVillers laboured through the remaining overs and South Africa didn’t go all out to set up a big score. They seemed pretty okay with saving their wickets. By the time DeVilliers got out they hardly had any time left to push up the score.

India went off to a flying start with Gambhir and Rohit Sharma firing on all cylinders. But there was no point left to be proven. The result didn’t matter to anyone. India fired up 47 for no loss in 6 overs. However, again they choked for no apparent reason at all. Anyway India doesn’t matter in this tournament no more

Scorecard:

Sri Lanka: 158 for 5 (20 overs)

(Dilshan 48 off 37 balls, Jayawardene 41* off 29 balls, Sangkarra 35 off 35 balls, Vettori 2 for 32)

New Zealand: 110 all out (17 overs)

(Guptill 43 off 34 balls, Redmond 23 off 13 balls, Mendis 3 for 9, Udana 2 for 17)

Sri Lanka scored at a steady clip and held on to their wickets long enough to post a score above 150. With 3 of their batsmen getting above 30 it was easy work for Sri Lanka and none of the New Zealand bowlers could impress the Sri Lanka batsmen enough to deny them some runs. Jayawardene forced the pace just enough towards the end to get to a decent target. There were no grand pyrotechnics.

New Zealand didn’t have a dream start but were soon coasting along merrily at 64 for 2 in 8 overs. This was a place they could launch their attack. However, Mendis was called in and he reduced them to 66 for 4 in just 4 balls. Hereafter it was all downhill for New Zealand right upto the Flight they would catch back home.
