Scorecard:

New Zealand 99 all out (18.3 overs)

(Styris 22 off 29 balls, Umar Gul 5 for 6, Razzaq 2 for 17)

Pakistan: 100 for 4 (13.1 overs)

(Shahzaib 35 off 28 balls, Afridi 29 off 18 balls, Vettori 2 for 20)

Pakistan came firing on all cylinders after a somewhat average spell this season. Razzaq’s bowling gave them good breakthroughs right at the start, but it was Umar Gul who broke New Zealand’s back. Of the 3 overs he bowled, he got a wicket on the 4th ball of every over, and also on the 3rd ball of two of those overs. Whew!

Pakistan batting flourished under a low target and Afridi fired along with newcomer Shahzaib. However Afridi’s scoring is suspect under high targets and pressure, something that doesn’t allow him to join the hall of greats.

Scorecard:

South Africa 183 for 7 (20 overs)

(Gibbs 55 off 35 balls, Kallis 45 off 31 balls, Smith 31 off 29 balls, Taylor 3 for 30)

West Indies: 163 for 9 (20 overs)

(Simmon 77 off 59 balls, Parnell 4 for 13)

West Indies has been a revelation this season and this match’s winner could be assured on a semi final berth. South Africa was fully prepared and went clinically amassing runs right from the word go. All of their top order fired and they were able to put up a tall score of 183.

West Indies lost Gayle right away in a deadly spell by Parnell, and they lost the rhythm with it too. Simmons waged a lone battle but that was not enough. Only when Simmons and Bravo were batting for the 3rd wicket did West Indies hold any hope, but that didn’t last long.
