T20 World Cup 2009 Most Valuable Player

The Most Valuable Player of World Cup 2009 was as expected, Shahid Afridi. Though he bloomed late, in 7 matches, he scored 176 runs in 125 balls scoring at a strike rate of 140.8 at an average of 35.2. He scored 2 50s in the matches that mattered the most - the SemiFinals and Finals. He also took 3 catches He bowled 28 overs and took 11 wickets giving 149 runs at an average of 13.54 at a very miserly 5.32g RPO. Phew! Some performance! He was followed by of course, Dilshan, who had a dream run with his bat! In 7 matches, he scored 317 runs in 219 balls scoring at a strike rate of 144.74 at an average of 52.83. He scored 3 50s in matches that mattered the most, except the final. He also took 3 catches. Next were Kallis and Gayle both on the strength of their batting like Dilshan. In fact, this tournament was so one-sided for the Batsmen that there was only one allrounder in the Top 30 to get points on bowling front as well. There were of course a few bowlers on the list, but as low as 20th - Mendis, 21st Van der Merwe, 24th Razzaq, 25th Ojha, 28 Ajmal and 30th Umar Gul. Rest all were batsmen!

The best batter in World Cup 2009 was Jacques Kallis of South Africa. He got just 5 matches, but scored 238 runs off just 188 balls he faced at an average of 59.5 and strike rate of 126.59. His highest was 64 out of the 2 50s he scored. Well, you may be surprised where is Dilshan of Sri Lanka? Well he was second just behind Kallis. He got 7 matches, and scored 317 runs off just 219 balls he faced at an average of 52.83 and strike rate of 144.74. His highest was 96* out of the 3 50s he scored. Third was the in-form Chris Gayle of West Indies. He got just 5 matches, and scored 193 runs off just 144 balls he faced at an average of 48.25 and strike rate of 134.2. His highest was 88 out of the 2 50s he scored.

The best bowler in IPL 2009 was surprises! Pragyan Ojha!! of India. He got just 3 matches, but bowling 11 overs he took 7 wickets for 68 runs for a thumping average of 9.71 runs per wicket at just 6.18 RPO. He was followed by of course, BAW Mendis, who got 7 matches, and bowling 26 overs he took 12 wickets for 143 runs for a good average of 11.91 runs per wicket ata miserly 5.5 RPO. Third was expectedly Umar Gul, who got 7 matches, and bowling 24.3 overs he took 13 wickets for 158 runs for a decent average of 12.15 runs per wicket at just 6.44 RPO.

The best fielder in IPL 2009 was Neil Brien of Ireland. He got just 4 matches, but took 4 catches and made 2 stumpings. He was followed by of course, Sangakkara who took 4 stumping and 5 catches in 7 matches. Third was, surprises Fletcher of West Indies who made 0 stumpings and took 6 catches in 5 matches.
